Muhoozi Deletes Threatening Posts Against Bobi Wine After International Backlash

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has deleted a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) in which he threatened opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

The deletions come shortly after the announcement of the 2026 general election results, in which President Museveni was declared the winner with 71.6 percent of the vote. Bobi Wine rejected the outcome, describing it as fraudulent, and has reportedly been in hiding since security forces surrounded his residence the day after he voted.

In several inflammatory posts, Gen. Muhoozi issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding that Bobi Wine surrender to security agencies or be treated as a rebel. He also claimed that his forces had “killed 22 NUP terrorists since last week” and said he was praying that “the 23rd is Kabobi,” using a derogatory reference to the opposition leader. He further made explicit threats of physical harm.

The remarks triggered swift international condemnation. CNN journalist Larry Madowo publicly challenged the general, asking why he was “bragging about killing Ugandans who support the opposition” and suggesting it was because of protection from his father, President Museveni.

Following the backlash, Gen. Muhoozi removed the posts from his account, continuing a pattern in which he has previously deleted controversial statements after public criticism.
