State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has alleged that the National Unity Platform (NUP) party engaged in election malpractice during the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a radio talk show, Balaam claimed that intelligence reports indicated that some NUP supporters voted more than once. He alleged that certain individuals voted twice, while others cast their ballots up to four times.

“Are you aware that NUP supporters were voting two times, some even four? They rigged this election. Bobi Wine was supposed to get a maximum of 800,000 votes, but they cheated,” Balaam said.

According to the official results, President Yoweri Museveni won the 2026 general elections with 71.6 percent of the total votes cast, defeating NUP candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and six other contenders. However, Kyagulanyi rejected the results, arguing that the election process was neither free nor fair.

This is not the first time such allegations have been made. Following the 2021 general elections, in which Museveni was declared the winner, the President also accused Kyagulanyi of rigging the vote by more than 2.5 million ballots.
