Police Arrest Key Suspect in Murder of UCU Director

Police have arrested a man in connection with the killing of Ms Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), whose death earlier this week sent shockwaves through the academic community.

The suspect, identified as a former domestic worker at the deceased’s residence, was apprehended in Budaka District after investigators reportedly traced him using intelligence leads. Authorities said items believed to belong to Ms Tumwebaze were recovered during the arrest.

Ms Tumwebaze was found dead in her home in Mukono District in what police described as a suspected case of aggravated robbery and murder. Preliminary findings indicate she was attacked during a night-time intrusion.

The murder has sparked widespread grief at UCU, where colleagues and students described her as a dedicated administrator committed to student welfare and campus development. University management has since increased security measures as investigations continue.

Police spokespersons say forensic teams are analysing evidence and that more arrests could follow. They have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.

Security experts note that high-profile crimes involving education leaders are rare in Uganda, but such incidents tend to heighten public concern about safety and law enforcement response capacity.
