Ugandan military general Muhoozi Kainerugaba has reportedly deactivated his Twitter (now X) account following a viral and sharply worded response from opposition leader Bobi Wine.
The development comes after a heated online exchange in which Muhoozi accused Bobi Wine of fleeing Uganda on January 26, shortly after the general elections, and spending months in the United States while his supporters remained in detention.
However, Bobi Wine swiftly countered the claims, exposing what he described as contradictions in Muhoozi’s statements. He pointed out that just days after the alleged departure date, Muhoozi had claimed he was hiding at the United States Embassy in Kampala.
“On 30th Jan you said I was hiding in the US Embassy. Now you’re saying I left on 26th Jan,” Bobi Wine wrote.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader went further to question why security forces allegedly mounted roadblocks and conducted multiple raids across the country in search of him if authorities believed he had already left Uganda.
He cited incidents including a February 4 raid on a residence in Kapchorwa and a March 12 operation targeting his personal assistant’s home, where he claimed security operatives abducted the assistant’s wife.
The climax of his response came in a line that has since dominated social media discussions:
“Do you now realize that your intelligence is NOT intelligent?”
Shortly after the exchange gained traction online, users noticed that Muhoozi’s Twitter account had been deactivated, fueling speculation about the impact of the backlash.
While no official statement has been issued explaining the move, the timing has led many observers to link the deactivation to the intense online criticism that followed Bobi Wine’s response.
Muhoozi has in recent years been one of the most outspoken Ugandan figures on social media, frequently using his platform to comment on political, military, and national issues.

His sudden exit from the platform whether temporary or permanent marks a significant shift in his digital presence.
The incident highlights the continued friction between the Ugandan government and opposition figures. Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has consistently accused the state of targeting his supporters through arrests and intimidation.
On the other hand, government officials maintain that security operations are conducted within the law to ensure stability.
Muhoozi, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has increasingly positioned himself as a key voice in Uganda’s political landscape, often sparking debate through his online statements.
The developments have triggered widespread reactions, particularly on social media, where many users viewed Bobi Wine’s response as both bold and humorous.
Some commentators suggested that the viral nature of the exchange may have contributed to Muhoozi’s decision to deactivate his account, while others argued it could be unrelated.
