Kampala — Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said he is in Uganda, dismissing claims that he fled the country amid heightened security operations around his home and family.

In a video message released on his social media platforms today, Mr Kyagulanyi said he had remained within the country despite what he described as sustained surveillance and pressure from security agencies following the recent general election.

“I am here in Uganda. I have not gone anywhere,” Mr Kyagulanyi said, adding that reports suggesting he had escaped were misleading.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader accused security agencies of deliberately spreading confusion about his whereabouts while continuing to harass his family and supporters. He cited the recent raid on his Magere residence, during which his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, was allegedly assaulted by armed men.

Mr Kyagulanyi said the targeting of his family would not deter him from pursuing what he termed a struggle for justice and democratic governance.

“I will not be intimidated into silence or exile,” he said in the video.

Security agencies have previously maintained that all their operations are lawful and aimed at preserving public order, though they have not issued an official statement in response to Mr Kyagulanyi’s latest remarks.

Mr Kyagulanyi has, in recent years, repeatedly accused the State of restricting his movements and violating his rights, particularly during election periods. Authorities have rejected the accusations, insisting that the opposition often exaggerates incidents for political mobilization.

The video has since circulated widely online, fueling debate among supporters and critics over the opposition leader’s safety and the broader political climate in the country.
