Mukono District Health Department has called for renewed commitment to ethics, accountability and patriotism among health workers following a comprehensive quarterly performance review held at the Mukono Municipality Council Headquarters.

The meeting, convened on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, brought together health facility in-charges, medical superintendents, private health providers, religious leaders and development partners to assess service delivery, review progress and address persistent challenges affecting health facilities across the district.

Presiding over the session, Mukono District Chairperson Isaac Dumba underscored the need for stronger coordination between public and private health actors, noting that improved collaboration is critical to delivering reliable and equitable healthcare services.

Mukono District Health Officer, Stephen Mulindwa, emphasised accurate data reporting, availability of essential medicines, proper patient registration, routine immunisation and timely submission of reports as key pillars for strengthening health service delivery.

“Without reliable data and ethical conduct, we cannot plan effectively or build public trust,” Dr Mulindwa said, urging health workers to uphold patriotism, professionalism and medical ethics in the execution of their duties.

He further encouraged continuous professional development, reminding practitioners that the evolving nature of medicine demands constant learning to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.

Health facility leaders echoed concerns about gaps in supervision and discipline, calling for strengthened monitoring mechanisms, teamwork and stricter adherence to reporting timelines to improve efficiency and accountability across all levels of care.

Religious leaders present pledged to support the district’s health agenda by mobilising communities to embrace immunisation, HIV testing, maternal health services and other preventive interventions, recognising their role as trusted voices in community sensitisation.

The review meeting featured technical presentations on HIV prevention, maternal and child health, tuberculosis screening and community outreach programmes. Participants also discussed findings from a collaborative HIV prevention study conducted in partnership with Makerere University, Johns Hopkins University and RTI International.

The quarterly review concluded with a renewed commitment by Mukono District to strengthen accountability systems, enhance health worker performance and expand access to quality healthcare services through ethical conduct, data-driven planning and sustained multi-sectoral collabora
